Hostos Sets Record and Celebrates Community Sponsors at
13th Annual Scholarship Fund Golf Outing
On Sept. 12, friends of Hostos gathered to support services and proven initiatives that further student success at the 13th Annual Scholarship Fund Golf Outing Classic at Pelham Bay & Split Rock Golf Courses in the Bronx.
This signature event raised a record $170,000 for Hostos students, and its success would not have been possible without Title Sponsors, Maddd Equities and BronxCare Health System; Giveaway Sponsors, Aufgang Architects and Rosen Law, LLC; Dinner Co-Sponsors, Goya Foods and Bronx Terminal Market; and Lunch Sponsors, 1199 SEIU and Joy Construction Corporation.
During dinner, Hostos President David Gómez made a surprise announcement on behalf of the Madruga Foundation, which committed to a $50,000 gift to establish the Madruga Family Scholarship. President Gómez remarked, “That is the kind of announcement that changes lives and impacts the community we all call home. I hope this gift inspires others and bolsters a tradition of giving – and every year, we can makes such an announcement.”
Following the announcement, Vice President Ana Martínez Orizondo recognized Development Officer Idelsa Méndez for her leadership role in ensuring the event’s fundraising success and presented her with a certificate of excellence in recognition of her work.
Many members of the College’s senior leadership, faculty, and extended CUNY family attended, including Hostos Senior Vice President of Finance and Administration, Esther Rodríguez-Chardavoyne, Provost Christine Mangino, Vice President of SDEM, Nathaniel Cruz, Foundation Board Chair José A. Sánchez-Kinghorn, President of Bronx Community College, Thomas A. Isekenegbe, and CUNY Chancellor Félix V. Matos Rodríguez.
“I take enormous pride in knowing how much Hostos means to the Bronx. The golf outing is a celebratory gathering of people who work hard and know the sacrifice it takes to play hard. Our sponsors, donors, and extended family know this and that is why they show up. We all have to work, but sometime we have to play to pay it forward,” said President Gómez.
